COVID-19 cases are surging in Illinois. State health officials reported more than 12-thousand new cases Monday. That is the highest number of daily cases this year. The last time a higher daily total was reported was December 1st of last year.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital in Illinois has set a record. State Health Director Doctor Ngozi Ezike says a majority of those hospitalized are not vaccinated. As of Sunday, close to four thousand people who tested positive were admitted to a hospital statewide. That is the most since December of 2020. Eight out of eleven regions in the state have less than 30 ICU beds available.
