Millikin University Director of Athletics Dr. Craig White is pleased to announce the hiring of Dan Gritti as the new Big Blue Head Football Coach. Gritti comes to Millikin after successfully resurrecting the football program at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2013, Gritti led the Lynx to an 8-2 record and the school’s first Southern Athletics Association (SAA) Championship in 26 years.
Under Gritti’s leadership, Rhodes had back-to-back 8-2 (5-1 in SAA) seasons in 2013 and 2014, setting a school record for most wins over a two-year period.
Holly Holm’s next fight will be against the woman she stunned to win the UFC bantamweight championship. UFC president Dana White tells the “Los Angeles Times” that Holm will face former champion Ronda Rousey July 9th. Holm shocked Rousey via second-round knockout in November.
A day after losing out on Ben Zobrist, the Mets bolstered the middle of their infield. New York acquired second baseman Neil Walker in a trade with the Pirates and signed free-agent shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera to a reported two-year deal.
The White Sox have made their first big splash of the offseason. Chicago has acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie from the A’s in exchange for pitching prospects J.B. Wendelken and Zack Erwin. Lawrie hit .260 with 16 homers and 60 RBI in his only season in the Bay Area.
It’s the final day of baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville. The Cardinals picked up infielder Jeff Gyorko [[ JERK-oh ]] from the Padres this week in a trade for outfielder Jon Jay. Jason Heyward remains a free agent, but it’s unclear if the Cards are making a serious effort to re-sign him.
Isaiah Thomas scored 20 points as the Celtics outlasted the Bulls, 105-100, in a tight one in Boston. Jimmy Butler finished with 36 points and seven boards for Chicago, which has dropped three in-a-row. Pau Gasol ended with 16 points and 15 boards. The Bulls are right back in action tonight against the Clippers at the United Center.
