A Democratic state lawmaker from the suburbs of Chicago is proposing a bill that would require unvaccinated Illinoisans to pay for their own COVID-19 health care expenses. State Representative Jonathan Carroll of Northbrook filed legislation yesterday that would amend the state’s insurance code so that a person who is eligible to receive a COVID vaccine and chooses not to be vaccinated shall pay for health care expenses out-of-pocket if the person becomes hospitalized with the coronavirus. The change would update insurance policies issued or renewed on or after January 2023.
