The Decatur Police Department is asking for two-point-five million dollars for upgrades to staff and technology. The funding would come from the larger 19-million dollars the city is getting courtesy of the American Rescue Plan. Interim Chief Shane Brandel tells city council the money would be used to much needed technology upgrades and to fill several open positions within the department. Brandel says violence in the city is getting out of hand, and the department does not have the means to combat it properly.
