On the night his dad was honored at halftime, Steph Curry still stole the show as the Warriors improved to 20-and-0 with a 116-99 win over the Hornets in Charlotte. Curry scored 28 of his 40 points in the third quarter, including the final 24. Golden State is at the Raptors on Saturday.
The Bulls outscored the Nuggets by 13 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 99-90 win. Pau Gasol had 26 points and 19 rebounds as Chicago won for the seventh time in nine tries. Jimmy Butler netted 19 in the victory. The Bulls host the Hornets on Saturday.
Last night in men’s college basketball, Demetrius Jackson and Steve Vasturia each dropped 21 points as Notre Dame dropped Illinois, 84-79 in Champaign last night. Elsewhere in a game heard only on Talk 101FM last night the Millikin Men beat Earlham 65-42. Tommy Pilackas led Millikin with 12 points in the win as the Big Blue improve to 4-4 on the season. The Millikin Women’s basketball team lost on the road despite getting 24 points from Alyssa Saklak falling to DePauw by a 87-60 final.
76ers center Jahlil Okafor is dealing with the consequences for his off-court actions. Okafor missed the first of two games he was suspended for by Philadelphia during its loss to the Knicks last night. The suspension was announced earlier in the day. Okafor found himself in trouble for getting in a fight outside a night club and a speeding ticket for going over 100 miles-per-hour.
Mark Richt is heading back to his alma mater. According to multiple reports, Richt will be the Miami Hurricanes head coach and an announcement is expected by the end of the week. The 55-year-old played quarterback for the Hurricanes in the early 1980’s behind Jim Kelly.
Johnny Manziel [[ man-ZELL ]] will remain on the bench for the Browns when they play the Bengals this Sunday. Head coach Mike Pettine [[ PET-in ]] has named Austin Davis the starting quarterback over Manziel. Davis relieved an injured Josh McCown in Monday’s night’s loss to Baltimore. McCown broke his collarbone and is out for the year.
The Packers and Lions meet for the second time this season on “Thursday Night Football” at Ford Field. Green Bay has lost four of five to drop them to 7-and-4 and out of first place in the NFC North. Minnesota leads the division at 8-and-3. The Lions are 4-and-7 with one of their wins coming over the Packers during Week 10.
Rams Defensive end Chris Long is the Rams’ nomination for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. All 32 teams are represented by one player. Finalists will be selected in January, with the winner to be announced the night before Super Bowl 50 at the “NFL Honors” awards show.
NFL owners will reconvene early next year for a special meeting on the possible relocation of teams to Los Angeles. The sessions are set for January 12th and 13th in Houston. The Rams, Chargers and Raiders are all candidates to relocate. Owners hope to vote on the issue next month.
Catcher Tony Cruz is headed to the other side of the state. The Cardinals have traded the veteran backstop to the Royals for minor league infielder Jose Martinez. Cruz was Yadier Molina’s primary backup the last four years, but the team recently signed catcher Brayan [[ Brian ]] Pena.
The Cubs have agreed to a one-year deal with reliever Rex Brothers. Chicago acquired Brothers from the Rockies in a deal last week. The 27-year-old was 1-and-0 with a 1.74 ERA in two stints with the Rockies last season.
The White Sox will not tender contracts to catcher Tyler Flowers and pitcher Jacob Turner. Flowers spent the last seven seasons in Chicago, while Turner was acquired off waivers from the Cubs in October. Both will become free agents.
