Three Central Illinois school districts are suing to retain their state recognition. The Cowden-Herrick, Beecher City, and Red Hill school districts are suing the Illinois State Board of Education, saying the body doesn’t have the authority to strip their recognition as a way to enforce compliance with Governor J.B. Pritzker’s mask mandate. The state superintendent is also named in the suit. Beecher City and Cowden-Herrick remain on probation, while Red Hill has moved into compliance with the mandate.
