At approximately 3:23 AM on 09/19/21, Decatur Police officers responded to the 1300 block of Walnut in reference to reports of gunshot victims. Responding officers located a 17-year-old male and 17-year-old female, both Decatur residents, in a parked vehicle. Both were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the head. The victims were transported from the scene by ambu- lance and airlifted to Springfield hospitals. The female victim succumbed to her injuries. The male victim’s injuries are considered life-threatening.
Detectives responded and processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. According to witnesses, the suspect(s) were in a vehicle which drove past the victim vehicle, and someone in the suspect vehicle fired several shots at the victim vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
