At approximately 5:00 PM on 07/26/21, Decatur Police officers were dispatched to the south al- ley of the 800 block of W. Wood reference a shooting. Responding officers located a 17-year- old male Decatur resident suffering from multiple gunshot wounds which are considered life- threatening. The victim is currently stable and being treated at DMH.
At approximately 6:30 PM, while officers and detectives were addressing the crime scene and dealing with the above shooting, a call was received about several subjects armed with handguns in the 700 block of W. Prairie in a Mazda and a Buick. Responding officers located a Mazda leaving the area and attempted to stop it. A high-speed chase ensued and the vehicle was lost on South Jasper. Another officer attempted to get out with two males behind the building where the call originated, and one of the males fired a gunshot as they both fled on foot. The officer was able to apprehend one of the males, a 21-year-old Decatur resident, but the other male is still at large. A large amount of narcotics was recovered from the flight path of the male who was ap- prehended, but no gun was recovered. Neither the officer nor the apprehended suspect were in- jured.
It is unknown at this time if these incidents are related.
