The Cardinals will be shopping for a starting pitcher this winter. With Lance Lynn out for 2016 following Tommy John surgery, John Mozeliak [[ mo-ZAY-lack ]] said at the GM Meetings in Florida that he’ll have to explore his first multi-year signing of a free-agent starter.
The cause of death for former major league pitcher Tommy Hanson has yet to be determined, but police say they aren’t ruling out an overdose. Hanson reportedly experienced catastrophic organ failure and slipped into a coma before passing away on Monday. Police say there is no suspicion of foul play. Hanson spent five seasons in the majors with the Braves and Angels from 2009 to 2013. He was with the White Sox on a minor-league contract in 2014 and had a minor-league deal with the Giants this year.
Another Rams stadium pitch for St. Louis is in the books. Representatives from St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego all made proposals yesterday in New York in an effort to keep their team from relocating to Los Angeles. The NFL will hold a special meeting December 2nd in Dallas.
Rex Ryan and the Bills battle the Jets tonight on “Thursday Night Football”. Ryan is facing his former team for the first time since being fired last December. Ryan spent six years with the Jets, who have lost their last three meetings with Buffalo.
The Bears are back to work preparing for Sunday’s game against the Rams. Matt Forte practiced on a limited basis after missing Monday’s win over the Chargers with a knee injury. Head coach John Fox says Forte is day-to-day. You can hear Sunday’s game “live” on Talk 101 FM!
Matt Hasselbeck gets an extra week to prepare for his next start in place of the injured Andrew Luck. Hasselbeck will be under center on November 22nd when the Colts visit the Atlanta Falcons. Indianapolis is on a bye this week. Three of the Colts’ next four games are on the road.
The Illinois football team faces a tall order Saturday, hosting unbeaten Ohio State. The 9-and-0 Buckeyes are third in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings, but are number-one in the Coaches’ Poll. The Fighting Illini beat Purdue 48-14 on Saturday to improve to 5-and-4 on the year.
