The Illinois Secretary of State’s office is launching a new initiative to help lower the number of uninsured drivers on the roads statewide. Spokesperson Henry Haupt says starting July 1st, auto insurance verification will be conducted electronically. Under the new system, insurance will be verified randomly at least twice a year. Drivers that cannot be verified will get a chance to prove they have insurance. Those who can’t face license plate suspension and a 100-dollar reinstatement fee.
