Illinois flags are flying at half-staff in honor of fallen Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim. Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an order yesterday to have the flags lowered at all government buildings and those covered by The Illinois Flag Display Act. Oberheim died following a shootout last Wednesday morning with a suspect in a domestic disturbance. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Oberheim’s partner Jeremy Creel was shot three times and is recovering. He was recently released from the hospital. Private visitation for Oberheim will be held this afternoon, followed by funeral and burial service tomorrow morning. The public is encouraged to line the funeral procession route.
