Flags will be lining the funeral procession route for a fallen officer in his hometown of Monticello. Volunteers in the community placed nearly a thousand flags along the route yesterday that will take Champaign Officer Chris Oberheim to the burial site. The Flagman Mission Continues organization provided the flags. Boy Scouts also put up flags at the cemetery. Officer Oberheim died last Wednesday from injuries after he was shot during a shootout with a suspect earlier in the morning. His partner Jeremy Creel was shot three times and is recovering. Suspect Darion Lafayette died at the scene. Visitation for family, friends, and invited guests will take place this afternoon at the Maranatha Assembly of God in Decatur, with a first responder walk through starting at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, followed by burial and will be open to the group invited to the visitation and first responders.
