Millikin University will celebrate the Class of 2021 with two in-person Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 16, at Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Millikin’s campus. Undergraduate and graduate students, including doctoral students, will be honored during the ceremonies.
The first Commencement ceremony on May 16 will start at 9:30 a.m. and will recognize graduates from the College of Arts & Sciences, Tabor School of Business and graduates earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA). The morning ceremony will feature student speakers Jada Miller and Collin Krakowiecki. Miller, of St. Louis, Mo., is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, and Krakowiecki, of Hanna City, Ill., is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
The second Commencement ceremony on May 16 will start at 2:30 p.m. and will recognize graduates from the College of Fine Arts and College of Professional Studies as well as graduates earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The afternoon ceremony will feature student speakers Sarah Obert, and Adam and Marcus Hayes. Obert, of Plainfield, Ill., is graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. Adam and Marcus Hayes, from Joliet, Ill., are both graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The morning Commencement keynote speaker is Randell S. Blackburn, chair of the Millikin Board of Trustees. Randell S. Blackburn joined the Millikin Board of Trustees in 2015. He graduated from Millikin University in 1982 with a degree in biology. He is a retired vice president of transportation for Union Pacific Railroad.
The afternoon Commencement keynote speaker is Dr. Jeffery P. Aper, provost at Millikin University. Dr. Jeff Aper was born and raised in Sterling, Ill., and has been provost at Millikin since 2014. Dr. Aper will retire from Millikin in Spring 2021.
May 2021 Graduating students will be allowed up to two guests (16 years of age or older) at the ceremony. Millikin community members will also be able to watch the graduation ceremonies through a public livestream on Millikin’s graduation website and Facebook page.
All individuals in attendance at the ceremonies will be required to wear a well-fitting face mask and participate in SHIELD Saliva-Based COVID-19 testing on campus. Participants will also be socially distanced before, during and after the ceremonies.
