The White Sox are declining the 10-million-dollar contract option on shortstop Alexei Ramirez. The team will buy out the 2014 All-Star for one-million dollars. The 34-year-old Ramirez batted a career-worst .249 with 10 homers and 62 RBI this past season.
Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke [[ GRAIN-kee ]] is opting out of the final three years of his contract to become a free agent. The 32-year-old will pass up a guaranteed 71-million dollars to test the open market. Greinke is a leading NL Cy Young candidate after going 19-and-3 with a major league-best 1.66 ERA this past season.
