The Illinois National Guard will play an important role in Springfield and in D.C. for the presidential inauguration. Guard Commander Major General Richard Neely says close to 250 guard members have been activated to protect the Illinois Capitol after receiving warnings from the FBI about possible armed protests. He added that 300 more guard members were sent to the nation’s capital to provide security, communication and support.
