Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder, East Peoria Mayor John Kahl, and Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch are all saying they will not be enforcing additional restrictions from the Pritzker Administration. Kahl posted on Facebook Sunday that East Peoria won’t be enforcing the new restrictions while also voicing support for the rights of the business community. Over the weekend, Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder says no new COVID-19 restrictions are going into place in that city any time soon. Governor J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health announced last week that new Illinois Region Three restrictions would go in place. Langfelder announced Sunday that Sangamon County officials are discussing if or when the restrictions would be enacted in the area. Current restrictions remain. Mayor Welch of Lincoln said Monday they would not be enforcing the additional restrictions, and Mayor Julie Moore-Wolfe added at Monday night’s City Council Meeting that the city isn’t prepared to enforce the issue at this time unless it is a blatant violation such as large parties or events.
