Governor J.B. Pritzker is releasing updated restrictions for high school winter sports. Pritzker announced yesterday that health officials have moved basketball from a medium to a higher risk sport. The change means there can be no contact practices or games. The governor insists that this doesn’t mean basketball or any other winter sports are being canceled outright, but that the risk level will have to change before games can be played. The restrictions are a response to increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the state.
