Governor J.B. Pritzker says applicants for unemployment with special circumstances are leading to a backlog at the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Pritzker said that applicants that can’t process their applications online and need to speak to a person need special attention that leads to delays in processing applications. The governor said most initial claims without special circumstances are processed quickly. He says additional phone responders have been hired, IDES employees have been working overtime, and the computer systems have been updated.
