A trial is set to get underway next month in the Macon County Sheriff recount case. The intention of the trial is to determine the fate of contested ballots in the ongoing recount of the 2018 Macon County Sheriff’s race. At the time of the election, Democrat Tony Brown was declared the winner by one vote over Lieutenant Jim Root. Root has contested the results ever since. A manual recount in July turned up 18 more votes for Brown. Over 13-hundred contested ballots will be the subject of the trial.
