A federal judge in Chicago is considered the front-runner for the Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Amy Coney Barrett was the former law clerk for the late Justice Antonin Scalia. She was considered for the high court after Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement in 2018. Several news outlets reported Saturday that Barrett was among those being seriously considered by President Trump after Ginsburg’s death on Friday at age 87. Republicans have vowed to move forward with a nomination. Democrats said the GOP should follow the precedent they set in 2016 by not considering a Supreme Court choice until after the election.
Meanwhile, Illinois’ governor is among those offering his words after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing. Governor JB Pritzker said Ginsburg will be remembered as one of the greatest justices of the Supreme Court. He said her legacy will live as long as people are willing to fight to protect it.
