A 31-year-old man has died from an apparent stabbing in the early morning hours Sunday in Decatur. It was reported earlier the man had been shot, but a release from Macon County Coroner Michael Day says an autopsy performed in McLean County indicates the man died from “Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy do to a stab would of the chest which involved the heart.” Decatur Police were called to South 17th street shortly after 5:30 early Sunday morning where they found a man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle bleeding from the chest. The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after 8:00 a.m.
The release from Day also says “As always, the forensic autopsy is a vital process in fully examining and delving into the overall post-mortem circumstance. Sometimes, given then necessity for emergency and surgical swiftness and the involved post-traumatic treatments and interventions the forensic pathology processes in autopsy can add fuller clarity into the manner and cause of death”
The victim has been identified as 31 year old Terry C. Theus of Decatur. The Decatur Police Department is asking that anyone with information of this incident to call detectives at (217) 424-2734 or Crimestoppers at (217) 423-TIPS.
