The Trump administration rescinded a new federal rule blocking foreign students from taking courses online. The administration has been pushing colleges and universities to reopen this fall, despite the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The rule was challenged by Harvard University and MIT. The University of Illinois also said it wants to keep its foreign students where they are. The U of I expressed support for the growing lawsuit from the states that sought to overturn the ICE rules that would have international students go home to take online classes. ICE this month said it would not sign-off on visas for foreign students who are not taking in-person classes. U of I President Tim Killeen said the school fully supports its international students. International students are worth a lot of money for the U of I. Over 13-thousand international students pay nearly a third of all tuition that the university takes-in.
