Charlie McGorray formally announced his campaign for Illinois State Representative in the 96th District Thursday morning in Central Park in Downtown Decatur. The 96th includes parts of Macon, Sangamon and Christian Counties and McGorray was joined by Illinois State Representative Dan Caulkins who serves the 101st District, State Representative Mike Murphy who serves the 99th, and Macon County State’s Attorney Candidate Scott Reuter.
After opening remarks from Rep. Caulkins, McGorray said that ineffective representation in Springfield for the 96th District has led him to realize that the District, which stretches from Decatur to the east side of Springfield needs help and needs it now, so he has chosen to run against incumbent State Representative Sue Scherer.
McGorray has served in the military, worked at Firestone and retired as a Captain in the Decatur Fire Department after 25 years of service. He was also part of the ownership team for McGorray’s Golf and Grille in Decatur from 2010-2014 and is well known in the Decatur business community. He says his campaign’s mission is to promote fiscal responsibility, ethics reform, pro-growth, and pro-jobs policies that have been missing in Springfield for decades.
