One of five Piatt County board members charged with violation of the Illinois Open Meeting Act is trying to get the board’s legal counsel replaced. Court records show that Shannon Carroll filed a motion in May asking the court to appoint an outside attorney to replace State’s Attorney Dana Rhoades. Carroll says the SAO should have notified board members of the possible violation before charging them. He also says that the SAO can’t function properly as the board’s counsel because the charged were filed by the Assistant State’s Attorney.
