A court has ordered a recount of ballots in the 2018 Macon County Sheriff’s general election. The clerk’s office is set to manually recount each vote on July 7th. Jim Root has contested his one vote loss to Tony Brown ever since election results were posted. The manual recount is intended to account for votes where the marking was made outside the box, which would be counted as a vote for neither candidate in a machine count.
