With help of a sponsorship from The Community Foundation of Macon County & Decatur Rotary Club #180 then matched by ALDI USA on Pershing Road, 24 of Decatur’s Young Leaders In Action Leaders were able to surprise shoppers and hand out $3,000 worth of gift cards Thursday at Aldi on Pershing Road in Decatur. Each shopper received a $50 gift card to shop, and they were greeted by the YLIA participants with smiles, cart assistance, loading and bagging their groceries in the store, and assistance to their vehicles.
According to the Community Foundation website, Young Leaders in Action is a locally grown youth leadership program launched by The Community Foundation and Decatur Rotary Club No. 180 in 2019. YLIA brings together a total of 110 students representing all 11 Macon County High Schools, with each student bringing a wide breadth of experiences, backgrounds and potential to the program. Sophomore, junior and senior Macon County high school students are encouraged to get involved and make a difference in their community with the YLIA.
