Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a “stay-at-home” order. The order will shut down all non-essential business in Illinois.
The order Currently will be active starting Saturday 21, at 5:00 p.m. through April 7. All the normal end dates that have been made in the other recent orders in response to COVID-19 will also be pushed back to April 7.
All essential business will be allowed to remain open, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, laundry businesses, gas stations, banks, health care services, and restaurants on the terms already set by the dine in ban and etc. Law enforcement, waste management, and utilities operations and the press should all continue as normal.
Governor Pritzker stated on Thursday March 19 that grocery stores highways interstates and gas stations would not be closing and that will remain true.
He chose to come to this decision based on science and what would realistically be the best plan to stop the spread of the virus as well ensure that we don’t run out of essentials.
Police will not be looking to punish those who are not adhering to this order, but will be keeping an eye out to help protect citizens.
Governor Pritzker said that those who have already been using the recommended safe practices will not be affected much. We are still able to go to stores, buy essentials, and even go on walks, but this is a reminder that we should all be taking things seriously.
This is one of the heavier reactions any state has taken in trying to prevent the spread of the Cornavirus, and mirrors the actions taken by California and their bay area
Illinois has currently had 5 deaths, 585 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4286 tests have been performed looking for COVID-19.
