Monday Night Governor J.B. Pritzker allowed for remote meetings of local governments.
He waived a portion of the Illinois Open Meetings Act, using his emergency powers.
This was done after he issued his order banning large gatherings of 50 people or more.
Once again this is another precaution to help deal with the Covid-19 crisis.
This decree will allow government officials to call in remotely to these meetings but this will also mean that they will need to make it possible for local citizens to call in as well.
It’s an important distinction that the meetings are not being canceled or, being made no longer public, this allows those who want to get involved to still have the ability too.
