A 29-year-old mother from Decatur shot the 33-year-old father of her child in self-defense after he began attacking her while she was sitting in a vehicle on Sunday evening.
Decatur Police were called to St. Mary’s Hospital after receiving a call about a man being shot in the side. The man explained to police that she shot him in front of his house on East Grand Avenue. The woman voluntarily showed up to the police department to be questioned.
She admitted to shooting the man in self-defense after he began hitting her while she sat in her vehicle.
The woman was not charged for the shooting, but has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for not having a registered concealed carry license.
The man was charged with unlawful vehicle invasion and domestic battery.
