Illinois could possibly see a return of the death penalty. State Representative David McSweeney filed to have the death penalty reinstated.
He believes the legislation will help to quell gun violence as well as serial killings and mass shootings.
The legislation will be heard at the next fall legislative session in 2020.
Former governor Pat Quinn abolished the death penalty in Illinois back in 2011.
