A 39-year-old Decatur store owner was left with a laceration to his face after confronting a thief at his store. Around 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the Double Apple Discount store, a man entered that the owner recognized for previous thefts. When the man left with items that weren’t paid for, the owner went outside to get the items back. The man went back inside but pushed the owner, who retaliated by throwing a drink the man had left with at his face.
The man then attacked the owner and struck the left side of his head. After being pulled apart, the owner became aware of blood running from his head and discovered an over 2-inch long cut.
The thief escaped the incident, which is being investigated.
