Local parents are on edge after multiple fights at Stephen Decatur Middle School have required presence from the Decatur Police Department to stop.
Over a span of just over a month, police went to Stephen Decatur over 30 times either to break up or investigate a fight. In the same period of time, both high schools had a combined five calls to police. The merger of Stephen Decatur and Thomas Jefferson this year is likely a reason for more fights. With the merger, the student population at Stephen Decatur has more than doubled.
