Members of the Decatur Federation of Teaching Assistants have threatened to strike. They feel as though their health care coverage is insufficient.
Made up of 275 members, the DFTA have been working while on an extension of the old contract since the beginning of the school year. While talks are ongoing, there has been no progress made over the last couple mediation meetings.
The union has filed through the Labor Relations Board and will now be able to move towards a strike. They must wait a week’s time after the last offer from the school system and union.
Many of the union formed a picket line while a school board meeting was held yesterday, and eventually made their way in as part of the audience. A meeting with mediators has been scheduled for the 15th of October.
