A Decatur man threatened people with knives in a robbery.
Chalil Mangrum was in a car with four passengers, two of which were children in the afternoon on August 27th. He entered the car uninvited. One passenger left the car and walked to a nearby porch. Mangrum followed her with a six-inch knife. He then told the woman he was going to kill anyone who shows up. Mangrum then proceeded to threaten the owner of the car with another smaller knife and demanded she get in and shut the door of the car. Mangrum drove the vehicle heading West on East Orchard Drive.
The woman got out of the vehicle but Mangrum caught her and brought her back to the car and stole her cell phone.
He was eventually found that afternoon by police and fled on foot after ending up in a backyard, but he escaped.
He was arrested Tuesday afternoon and now faces 10 charges including vehicular hijacking. His bail is $75,000.
