A 20-year-old who claims to have accidentally shot a 12-year-old child has been sentenced to over a decade in prison. In November 2018 Avonte Flesch shot Marqueius Gray in the chest. Gray was taken to the hospital where he eventually passed away.
Flesch ran from the scene, reportedly out of fear. Flesch was playing with the gun when it accidentally discharged.
Earlier this year, Flesch pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter as well as possession of a weapon by a felon. For taking a plea deal, a charge of unlawful use of a weapon was dropped.
