A Decatur felon who told police he was shot by someone else has admitted he shot himself.
Stephan Moss told police he was standing outside and heard a gunshot, ran inside, and realized he had been shot. While being treated at DMH, the staff noticed inconsistencies with his story. Instead of the shot travelling horizontally through his leg, the bullet went down his leg vertically.
Moss came clean and told police he shot himself. While examining a gun, he accidentally discharged the weapon.
Officers searched Moss’s apartment and found two bullet casings and over 20 live rounds. Moss claimed they were from a long time ago.
Prior to this, Moss has been convicted of aggravated fleeing/eluding and burglary. He is now being charged with illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a weapon by a felon.
