A man attempted to spend a fake $100 bill in Decatur and he is now in custody.
Norvandis Smith tried to buy items at the Save-A-Lot on Grand Avenue. A worker quickly recognized the counterfeit and asked Smith to wait while they retrieved change from the store’s safe. Norvandis was arrested upon trying to leave the store.
Police say another bill with a matching serial number was passed along to a cashier at County Market at the same time. Witnesses saw Smith and the other suspect exit the same vehicle.
Smith has been charged with forgery.
