The Decatur Federation of Teaching Assistants, a union that represents almost 300 teacher’s assistants, requested help from a federal mediator for negotiating a collective bargaining agreement between the local board and the Board of Education of Decatur Public Schools.
Recently, the negotiations have come to a stand still over disagreements in health insurance, wages and contact hours with students. The negotiations started back in April and, so far, the two sides have met 11 times.
