The woman found yesterday as part of a murder investigation has been identified.
The young lady, 22-year-old Samantha Cushing, was the girlfriend of the suspect and she was pregnant at the time of her death. The man who led police on the chase has been identified as Deven Barger.
Illinois State Police were called to investigate a murder in Shelbyville and once they arrived, Barger fled and police gave chase. Police became aware there was a 3-year-old child in the car with the suspect. Once the pursuit reached Taylorville, Barger slowed down and communicated with police out of the window the vehicle. The chase eventually came to an end at Lincoln Trail.
The child, who is Barger and Cushing’s daughter, was confirmed safe during the suspect’s arrest.
