The wet spring has Illinois farmers running way behind schedule. The latest crop report for Illinois says just 24% of the state’s corn crop is in the ground. Last year, 98% of the crop was planted by this point, and the average is just under 90%. It’s the same problem for soybeans. The report says just nine percent of the bean crop has been planted. Last year, farmers had almost 80% of their beans in the ground, and the five year average is just over 50% by this point in May.
