A state bill with more restrictions for owning a gun is making its way through Illinois legislature. Senate Bill 1966 would prevent people with multiple out-of-state convictions from coming to Illinois and obtaining a legal FOID card without completing an extensive background check. The highest priority of the bill would be to create a law enforcement portal to show gun owner information on both state and local levels. The bill was created in response to shooters like the one in Aurora who still obtained an FOID card, despite the fact he was a convicted criminal.
