Rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape in a Louisiana case tied to a 2022 incident.
The sentence was handed down after the court rejected his attempt to withdraw the guilty plea. The charge was part of a plea agreement that reduced the original first-degree rape charge, which carried the possibility of a life sentence.
The case centered on allegations from a woman who said she was assaulted at Mystikal’s home. During the sentencing hearing, she addressed the court and described the impact of the incident.
Mystikal, whose legal name is Michael Tyler, also spoke before the sentence was issued. The judge ultimately imposed the 20-year prison term connected to the rape charge.
The case adds to the rapper’s long history of legal issues. He previously served prison time after a sexual assault conviction and was required to register as a sex offender.
Mystikal rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with a series of major rap hits.
