Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, alongside Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison, is spearheading a coalition of 21 states and local governments in a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s repeal of the 2024 Mercury and Air Toxics Standards Rule. Filed on Tuesday, the suit claims the Environmental Protection Agency acted unlawfully by failing to present a solid rationale for the rollback and neglecting recent advancements in pollution control technology. The coalition argues that gutting the rule endangers public health and the environment, and they are urging the courts to reinstate the regulations to protect communities from mercury and toxic air emissions.
