Two Killed, One Injured in Deadly Crash in Sangamon County

Authorities in Sangamon County are probing a deadly crash on Interstate 55 that claimed two lives early this morning. The incident happened just after 1 a.m. near East Lake Shore Drive, when a northbound vehicle entered the southbound lanes and collided with another car. Both drivers—a 42-year-old woman from Wentzville, Missouri, and a 51-year-old woman from Girard, Illinois—were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being held until families are notified. A passenger survived but was taken to the hospital with injuries. The southbound lanes reopened at 6 a.m., as the investigation continues and autopsies are pending.
