Governor J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are directing $36 million toward the enhancement of 67 park projects across the state. The funding is part of the longstanding Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program, a state-local cost-sharing initiative that has distributed $675 million since 1986. This round of grants will support improvements ranging from new playgrounds and walking trails to pickleball courts and native landscaping. State officials emphasize that revitalizing parks contributes to healthy, vibrant communities and offers residents of all ages more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors close to home.
