Man Sentenced to 15 Years Following The Killing of a Pregnant Woman In Decatur
A man is receiving a 15-year prison sentence for his role in the killing of a woman and her unborn baby in Decatur in 2023. Mattavius Anderson was sentenced after pleading guilty to residential burglary. He was one of three people charged with the killing of Janiah Thomas, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Authorities say Thomas and her four-year-old daughter were both shot in March 2023 in the 13-hundred block of North Woodford Street. The daughter survived. Mattarion Anderson was found guilty of Thomas’ murder and sentenced to a total of 40 years in prison in May.
