EIU Cutting Dozens Of Positions
Eastern Illinois University is eliminating 63 positions on campus, according to the university. EIU President Jay Gatrell cited revenue declines as the primary reason for the cuts. In an email to faculty and staff yesterday, Gatrell called the decision “difficult,” adding that the university recognizes the “pain and uncertainty this news brings to those directly affected.” The university clarified that 17 of the cuts are full-time staff positions, 23 are contracted instructors, four are academic support positions, and 19 of the cuts are vacancies.
