Illinois AG Stands Behind Texas Lawmakers In Illinois
(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is standing behind Democratic Texas lawmakers in Illinois. Raoul released a statement saying Texas law enforcement doesn’t have the authority to hunt down and make arrests of Texas legislators in Illinois based on a civil arrest warrant issued by the Texas House. Democrats in Texas left the state to stop Texas Republicans from voting to re-draw the map that would give them five more pickup opportunities ahead of 2026. Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the state’s Department of Public Safety to arrest House Democrats who weren’t present for the special legislative session.
