This year’s Johnson & Mears Community Service Award winners are Verlyn & Paul Rosenberger. The National Night Out Committee honored them at tonight’s National Night Out event in Decatur. Along with their involvement with the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations, the Rosenbergers are advocates for the Holiday Hills Neighborhood where they distribute welcome packets to new residents, they are judges for Beautify Decatur Awards, active members of the Sertoma Club, and also involved in Theatre 7, Soyland Access for Independent Living (SAIL), the Audubon Society, and many other community organizations.

In 2023 the NNO Committee created the Johnson & Mears Community Service Award to honor outstanding community volunteers and neighborhood ambassadors. Named after the late Francie Johnson, a Fansfield Neighborhood member and executive member of CONO who co-chaired NNO for many years, and Helen Jeanne Mears, a Park City neighborhood volunteer and NNO Steering Committee member as well as a member of Executive Committee of CONO.
