A 43-year-old male was driving a four passenger ATV (side-by-side) while pulling an innertube occupied by two juvenile males near Fort Daniel Road Sunday Afternoon. According to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, while turning around on a downhill slope, the innertube slid out around the outside of the turn and collided with the side of a large boulder. The Mt. Zion Fire Department and Abbott Ambulance arrived on scene to administer medical treatment and then transported both juveniles to Decatur Memorial Hospital. One juvenile male was pronounced deceased at Decatur Memorial Hospital and the other juvenile was later transported to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield to be treated for life threatening injuries. This is still an ongoing investigation and further details may be released at a later date.
